The fibre optic ends are first prepared for splicing by removing the protective coating from each end.&amp;nbsp; A process called cleaving is then completed which scores and breaks the ends.&amp;nbsp; The process requires precise treatment by experienced fibre optic engineers who use a microscope to inspect the ends.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Fusion splicing apparatus is used to mount the two fibres with a microscope to help in the placement.
